The Committee 2015-2016

It is necessary for any club to have a team of dedicated, experienced and willing volunteers in order for it to function smoothly. Below is the current BUMC Committee, a group of such people that run the club, headed this year by the Chair, Oliver Gibson. Each committee position has a dedicated role, along with the assisting the general organisation of weekend trips. If you would like to know what each role involves, click here. To contact the committee either email, or send an email to individual committee members, addresses shown below.

Oliver Gibson

Greeting all, I’m Olly, chairperson for the club this year. This is my 3rd year on committee, and 4th in the club. Having joined as a complete novice, I’ve since led a VDiff and I even slept in a tent on Dartmoor once. With such a powerhouse of mountaineering knowledge at the head of the club, you can be sure this year will be a good’un. I’ll chiefly be responsible for communicating with the SU as well as heading up the new committee. If you have any questions, please do get in touch.

Alice Tustian

Hi I'm Alice and I'll be dealing with the finances this year as club treasurer. Before joining the club I was a complete beginner to climbing. I've always been a very outdoorsy person so I thought I would give it a go and I loved it! If you have any questions or want to go climbing sometime feel free to contact me.

Club Secretary

Charlotte Cook

I'm Charlotte, second year Biology student, and I'll be your secretary this year. I was tempted into the club by walking, despite swearing off hiking after D of E, and its been the best mistake ever! I'm improving my climbing slowly and plan to do more leading over this year. I'll be responsible for club organisation, so point any general questions at me!

Climbing Secretary

George Bridgewater

Hi, I’m George, a second year mechanical engineer and this year’s climbing secretary. I’m the one who’ll be organising the majority of our climbing activities, the thrilling side of mountaineering. My aim this year is to provide exciting and challenging things for you to do no matter how experienced you are. If you’re new to this amazing sport then come along to the learn-to-climb sessions at the beginning of the first semester (check the calendar for the dates). If you already have some experience then come and join us on our trips to the indoor walls in Bristol every Wednesday afternoon. In addition to all this indoorsy stuff there’ll be frequent outdoor trips where you can test your mettle on real rock and even against the Scottish winter! Whether you’re a competitive boulderer, roped specialist, trad climber or an enthusiastic humanoid then we’re the club for you. If you’ve got any questions about climbing at Bath, drop me an e-mail, find me at the wall or down the pub.

Walking Secretary

Barney Marshall

Hey Mountaineers! The name’s Barney and I’ll be your go-to guy for all things walking over the coming year. With a love of the outdoors and a lifetime of outdoorsmanship under my belt, you can rest assured I will do everything I can to make sure that you won’t be disappointed with what’s on offer. I like to think of myself as very approachable, either in person or electronically and I take that into my role as walking sec. If you have any questions about the club’s walking activities, don’t hesitate to get in touch. If you want to get more involved, drop me a line. If you have any suggestions for changes or additions to the walking department’s itinerary, don’t be afraid to speak up. This is your club just as much as it’s mine, and it’s everyone coming together that makes for experiences worth remembering.

Gear Secretary

Liz Randall

Hello, I’m Liz and I’m a third year Chemical Engineering Student and your gear secretary for the second year running. Consequently I’ll be spending my time ensuring you all have the equipment needed for all excursions and then pestering you to give it all back, of course with interest paid in chocolate to me! I’ve been climbing for about 6 years primarily locally, but wouldn’t say no to a good hike. If you have any questions about gear or just want a chat about climbing or the club please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Social Secretary

Rania Wahab

Hiya!! I'm Rania, a second year, and your social sec, meaning I get to organise all the fun socials this year! Mountaineering was completely new territory for me as a fresher and I couldn't recommend it more - there's so much to get involved in and a wide range of opportunities for beginners and experienced mountaineers alike. I study maths but I know how to have a good time, so make sure you join and come along to all the lively and exciting socials we have to offer (which will usually feature some form of surprise cake)! Feel free to message me for info, social ideas, or just for a friendly chat! Hope to see you soon!

Web Secretary

Catherine King

Hi! I’m Cat, I’m in my third year studying Mechanical Engineering. I am the Web Secretary for BUMC this year which involves keeping our website and social media up to date. It is my third year with the club, so if you have any questions please get in touch. If not, I look forward to meeting you on club trips and socials.
