The Roaches 18-20th March

March 27th, 2011

In mid March the club set off for its second Peak District trip of the year this time to the Roaches which is in the west of the Peaks. After a rather chilly first night under canvas the early morning sun could not come too soon, the weather on Saturday was fantastic allowing many routes to be climbed throughout the day.

Many classic routes were climbed including ‘Valkyrie’ and ‘The Sloth’. Some members of the club who a relatively new to the art of leading also gained some valuable experience. After a second rather more cosy night we awoke to what can only be described as a very grey day, although it wasn’t actually raining. Nevertheless, camp was packed away and we headed up to the crag for what we hoped would be another great day of grit stone climbing.

Many of the club decided to boulder instead trad climb due to the unpredictable weather. However, a small group of climbers did soldier on through the occasional downpour to complete several impressive routes. Shortly after lunch a large group headed back down to a local tea rooms for afternoon tea and to escape from the cold.
