Lake Districst, Feb 2011

February 21st, 2011

We have just had a great weekend out in the Lake district, as opposed to the popular Langdale valley, we stayed in the “Fatso” hut in Duddon valley instead. The hut is known to “fatso” for a reason, but you’ll have to find out on the next trip we stay there!

On Saturday, the party split into four groups, with one group going from Wasdale head to Glaramara and back, a group going up Great Gable, one going for a low level walk around Wastwater and the final group which went to the Old man of Coniston. I was on the low level walk and as a result, no snow was seen but then a supposed to be short walk also turned into a 10+ mile trek involving some hitching!

On the Sunday, the party split into three groups, one going for an easy walk near Ambleside, I was in the group going up and around Pavey Ark, and a small party went up the Fairfield horseshoe. Unfortunately due to snow our vehicles failed to get through Hard Knott Pass and had to make a long detour , subsequently involving a very late arrival on campus that night!

For your memories, there are more photos to be found here!

I hope everyone enjoyed themselves over the weekend, our next trip will be North wales in two weeks time! Look out for the signups!
